Millwall Tour - Malta 2003

Essential Info

The dates are set: travelling out on the evening of Thursday 1st May (you won't need to take the day off work, though you may need to leave early) and returning the evening of Tuesday 6th May. With Monday as the MayDay Bank Holiday, that means you'll only need to take 2 days off work (although many will no doubt take the Wednesday off to recover!). We are flying direct from London (H'row, I think) to Valetta, the capital of Malta. Our hotel is only 15 minutes from the Airport.

We have 10 apartments booked at The Halland 4 star hotel, only a 10 minute walk from the main nightlife area called St Julians. Each apartment has a full kitchen, a lounge (with a sofabed) and a bedroom with two single beds. We plan for each apartment to sleep 3 although (a) there won't be much sleeping and (b) some rooms (usually JTG's) will have as many as 30 crashed out at various times. We also have an extra apartment booked as a "meeting" room - no doubt this will be used mainly to discuss tactics for the forthcoming games but it could also be "sub-let" as a shagging room in the event that Grumpy and Olly's "Blue Octopus" gay bars don't fulfil everyone's needs!!

We hope to play twice…a tournament with the four Maltese teams (plus possibly another touring side) on the Saturday and a normal 15-a-side game on the Monday (possibly in the evening). Despite a huge amount of drinking, these games are always taken seriously - this year we have a decent sized squad so we might still have 15 fit to play (i.e. conscious) on Monday. These games have not yet been finalised but we are in regular contact. As usual, tour drinking rules will apply 24/7 throughout the tour. As a taster, these will be introduced on selected Saturday's leading up to tour. Punishments and forfeits are often passed down by the "Court of Justice" (a misnomer if ever there was one!). Those found guilty can even make representation to the "European Court of Appeal" but be warned - the punishments can be increased as well as reduced.

After Christmas, we will be fundraising for the "Tour Fund" which pays for several of the rounds on tour and usually some of the meals as well (pigeon anyone?). The more we raise, the less you have to pay for yourself! The cost of touring is £290 which includes flights, accommodation, transfers, Tour T shirt, Tour Rugby shirt and a few surprise extras…

We have 36 people who have already signed up including… Matthew Alexander, Philip Antenbring, Oliver Arthey, Michael Beech, Kieron Bell, Philip Brennan, Jonathan Chico, Michael Costin, Adam Crawford, Wynand De Ronde, Toby Dutfield, Chris Edmunds, John Geromoschos, Karl Harris, Richard Hermon, Emmanuel Jaclot, Antoon Lombard, Isak Lombard, Michael Marques, Christopher McCafferty, Jonathan McLachlan, Dominic Morched, Neil Murphy, Tony O'Haire, Neil Rice, Jamie Rockman, Pablo Sanchez, Matt Shorrock, Harland Sinclair, Shawn Spilsbury, Alistair Sykes, Andrew Tiffin, Nicholas Tiffin, Glenn Wallis, Martin Ward, Nigel Webb.
