18th Feb. First Team Match Report v Maldon
The 1st team meet in bright sunshine at the farm with a much changed
team to the previous week with as many as 12 players ill, injured or on
holiday to play Maldon who were 2nd in league at kick off.
Maldon's ground was firm, with no wind and flat. Millwall started the
game as they meant to carry on with some great work in the pack especially
in the scrum.
The forwards put into practice what they've been training on at the Paddock,
with some good pick and drives and then unleashing the back who had some
good runs by drew Benjamin and Tan Parsons in the centers and Chris Copping
at full back. The later set up an attacking ruck which led to drew Benjamin
scoring and fly half Adam brook converting.
From the restart the ball was unluckily knocked on which Maldon picked
up to run down the wing to hit right back.
Man of the match Andrew Bates also dived over from a quickly taken penalty.
Adam's conversion was unfortunately charged down.
The 2nd half again saw Millwall playing well but not scoring the points
their territory or possession deserved which ultimately cost us in the
end as energy levels dropped.
Maldon scored when they were in the red zone and when the scored with
one minute to go the game was up. However there was enough time to bring
1st XV debutant Shafik Visram on and join Gerrie van Eedin.
Despite losing there were a lot of positives to be taken from the performance
away from home with a depleted team and up against a good team.
If we play like this for the remaining games of the season we can keep
our place in Essex 1, as we've shown we can give anyone a game in the
division.
