Who, What and Where are we?
If
you are new to Millwall Rugby Club, or are thinking of joining and just
want to know what its all about, this is the page for you!
If you need to speak with someone, please
call the Club Mobile on

Please leave a message if it isn't answered and we'll call you back.
In the beginning....
Millwall Albion RUFC was formed
in 1995 after watching the World Cup rugby on the TV. From humble beginnings
(borrowed shirts etc) the club has gone from strength to strength. After
a few years, the club dropped the Albion from its name.
Men's Teams
There is a very successful first team (having gained 6 promotions in
9 seasons) and a second team (known as the Llamas) and a 3rd XV, all of
whom meet regularly during the season with games most weeks. The
first team enjoys a good status in Division 1 of the Essex league, having
won promotion recently. The Llamas (don't ask!) play in the Essex Merit
Table, were promoted at the end of 2008/2009 and the Third team became
a regular feature since January 2004, winning two promotions since then.
They are also part of the Merit Table. We have recently formed a regular
4th XV (playing in the Merit Table for the first time during the 2009/10
season) and are very keen to welcome new players of ANY standard - including
complete beginners. We also have an occasional "Vets" [over
35's] team playing friendly matches.
Women's Teams (Venus Rugby)
During the 2004/5 season the "Venus XV" ladies rugby team formally
joined with Millwall, to become the Millwall Venus team. They are an essential
and vibrant part of the club structure, both on and off the field. The
Venus section has its own website - click
here to visit www.venusrugby.com
Youth Section (Millwall Lions)
During 2003/4 the club launched its Youth Section, the "Millwall
Lions" for children between the ages of 8 and 18. The section is
run by qualified coaches and holds training sessions on weekday evenings
and Sunday mornings (various sessions, covering boys & girls of all
ages), with matches throughout the season. The Lions also have a website - click here to
visit www.millwalllions.com

a bit weird) account...just

And now....
The club welcomes new players of all standards and their families and
offers a wide range of activities both during and out of the season. The
Social Secretary
oversees a programme of social events during the season, highlighting
in the May Tour and the Annual Dinner and Award Presentations held at
the Houses of Parliament at the end of the season..
Most Saturdays throughout the season we put out three men's teams and
a women's side. League rules mean only registered players can turn out
for the 1st XV, but the Llamas, Thirds and 4th XV are more informal and
will happily give a run out to a new player, in whatever degree of un-fitness
he may be. If you haven't played for a while, don't worry...Millwall Thirds
or Fourths can be your way back into the game! No fitness [or talent?]
required. The Women's (Venus) side also welcomes girls of any standard
- there's sure to be a place for you in our growing squad.
During its short life, Millwall
has fielded players from over 25 countries across the world. Wherever
you're from, you're sure of a warm welcome.

Training
Men's & Women's training during the season (for those who can make it) is usually
on Tuesday & Thursday nights from 7:30-9:30pm at the Lower Paddock,
Mudchute Farm, Isle of Dogs (at the end of Pier Street).
For information about Youth training sessions, please see www.millwalllions.com
for full details.
We occasionally use indoor and astro-turf facilities at the nearby George
Green school to preserve the grass on the Lower Paddock. George Green
school is on Manchester Road, a minutes walk from Island Gardens station.
Though we would obviously encourage it, attendance at training is not
essential to play for the Club.

here.
Matches Home games are currently played on Millwall Park, at Victoria Park or on Hackney Marshes.

So what next...?
The simple answer is...come down and meet the players. If you can make either of the training sessions, that would be great.
If you're not comfortable just breezing in, contact one
of our team managers beforehand
and they can meet you and arrive with you.
If you can't make training - for whatever reason - you could just drop into
Clubhouse (under the arches beside Island Gardens DLR station)
around 9.30pm on a Wednesday and you are sure to meet a player or two. Ask
any of the bar staff and they'll be happy to introduce you. Or just call
us on 07963 833655.
We have a new clubhouse
on the edge of Millwall Park, right next to Island Gardens DLR station,
which is now in use for the whole club and the wider community.
And if you're not around during the week and just fancy a game on a
weekend, that's fine too. Nobody stays a stranger very long at Millwall
Rugby Club. If you want to play, just send an email to selection@millwallrugby.com
before Wednesday evening saying who you are, what position you play etc.
and providing some contact details. We'll get back to you with the details.
Training sessions are always
free and we operate a "first match free" policy to encourage
new people to try us out. Everything else can be explained when we meet
you.
We have people from all over the world and - whether you are a novice or a rugby legend - you'll be sure of a friendly welcome at Millwall Rugby Club.
