The Clubhouse ProjectThe Railway Arches on Millwall ParkLast updated: 9th March 2008 PHOTOS BELOW. On this page is a selection of photos taken of the arches and the work that has been done. They are organised by the date on which they were taken. This page shows pictures taken on 8th March 2008 Click here to go back to the index page to see photos from other dates.
Chris Groenewald (Chrisipedia) fixed the skirting and laid the carpet tiles in Arch 2 (a professional job). He also donated Henry.
The two toilet cubicles are painted but still need door frames, the doors themselves, lighting and the porcelain.
The new partition wall and doorway through into the toilet area. The doorframe is incomplete and obviously it still needs a door. The door to outside (shown on the right edge of the picture) will be changed to a new, outward opening door once the protective roll shutters are in place and it will become our main way into the arches, avoiding the 'building site' in arch 1.
The partition wall will serve as one part of our kitchen area. Our cooker will go here, next to the units and worktop just visible to the left.
A better pic of the kitchen area, which will be completed with two more base units, 4 more wall units, the proper cooker and fridge freezer. The new sink is just visible in the worktop.
The view of the open 'social area' (looking towards the doorway into arch 1). This area is now carpeted and only needs the electrical sockets and lights to be fitted before it is ready for use. It is approximately 5 metres by 6 metres (270 square feet) and should comfortably accommodate 20 to 30 people. It will have a TV etc. and be used for all smaller events until the larger arch is ready.
Access to the upstairs storage area, which will evenually become the club 'office', is by an installed and fixed 'loft ladder' (so no-one can run away with the ladder while you're up there!)
The ceiling of the kitchen area. The black void above is the storage/office area (without lighting at the moment).
The 'upstairs' area is surprisingly large and spacious already, and will be nearly twice as large when the final plan is completed. It may need a bit of decoration though!
The view towards the doorway into arch 2, taken looking down from the edge of the upstairs area. On the left are the two metal cupboards moved from the portacabin on Saturday, which will evenually go in the upstairs office.
Partially covered by plastic to keep off the painting splashes, the social area is nicely carpeted and hopefully easy to keep clean!
All the bricks and breeze blocks from the back of arch 1 have been moved into the old 'bolier room' area to free up space in arch 2.
The area just inside our back door (the fire escape door) will become our storage area prior to the next phase of building works. It will eventually be our Gents toilets.
There remains plenty to tidy up before next weekend.
A warming sight on a cold day. An electric fireplace has been fitted to block the ugly hole in the brick wall in arch 1.
